Because it has high life expectancy, good medical and educational standards and makes alot of money. People have a good quality of life. Although it is in the "poorer south" of the world the Brandt Line (an imaginary line that seperates the rich and poor countries) the Brandt line curves around Australia to include it in the richer divide of the world.
