He is lonely because he has been shunned and outcast ed by everyone due to them being racist.
crooks, stable-hand, is another lonely character at the ranch. The chief cause of Crooks loneliness centres on the fact that he is a coloured man. Most of the men constantly put down Crooks and use him as a scapegoat even to the point of calling him the "N" word. Because Crook is a coloured man, he had to live by himself in a small room in the barn. Crooks becomes so accustomed to his constant isolation, that he is suspicious of any man who suddenly tries to make friends with him.
Crooks is afraid of being alone at night because as an African American man in a racist society, he is vulnerable to attack and discrimination. Being isolated and unable to defend himself makes him feel especially powerless and afraid for his safety.
He is isolated from others' in the bunkhouse because of his race, not by choice. But either way it doesn't seem to make a difference if he is black. But he does say in the book that he likes having his own space and a permanent residence.
The other men like George and Lennie go here and there and they don't really stick around for too long in one area. Crooks does snap at people whenever they come into his room, but he kinda gives in when he gets more visitors in his room then he would have liked (none). And he also doesn't really say anything to the other guys, he just sits away from others' or is working in the barn or fixing something for someone. But also remember that this story takes place during the Great Depression, so there is discrimination .Like when Curley's wife threatens Crooks for something that he said. Since she is white she has the power of that, especially if she told the police, they would just throw him in jail no matter what.
Of mice and men was based on 1930's america and most of the people in that era were extremely racist. This is the main reason Crooks is isolated from the rest of the ranch workers. He is not allowed in the bunkhouse because of the color of his skin.
He is lonely and he Is afraid to sleep alone because being a black man in that time was when the KKK was active. He wants to be able to protect himself.
Due to the racism of many of the other workers.
because he is a black man and isn't allowed into the bunkhouse because he doesn't fit in and they say he smells.
Crooks is sometimes afraid of being attacked or targeted by others because of his race. He is also afraid of being alone with no one to protect him if something were to happen.
Here it is: Nyctophobia : Fear of the dark or night. I got that from http:/phobialist.com... Some very interesting things that you can be afraid of.
Achluophobia- Fear of darkness. There is also nyctophobia, the fear of night.
Depends on how much you care about the well being of your child.
Well, I don't know what the fear of being alone at night is, but. Know that the fear of the dark is nyctophobia; maybe that helps? I'm totally nyctophobic; it's the fear of the dark because of what the mind thinks up about objects in the room which are not clearly visible. Hope that helped.
No. But I am afraid of things that go bump in the night.
you can't. but you can put him in a sound proof room when fireworks night happens every year.
In this chapter, George has gone to Soledad with the rest of the ranchers, as they would often do on Saturday night. Contrary to Crooks' belief however, he has not gone to drink and visit the brothel like the other men. This is revealed when Candy says he has not taken any money with him (because they are saving up to buy the land Goerge has found). During the chapter, Crooks teases Lennie and makes him believe George will not be coming back. George does however come back at the end of the chapter and enters Crooks' room with Candy and Lennie and tells them to LEave Crooks alone.
