Same-sex marriage is legal in Florida effective January 5, 2015. Florida's former ban on same-sex marriage was struck down as unconstitutional on August 21, 2014 and, on December 19, 2014, the United States Supreme Court refused to grant any further delay of the implementation of that decision.

No, civil unions, though not legally defined, are banned and unrecognized in Texas.

State ConstitutionTexas Proposition 2 (2005) (Defense of Marriage) passed on November 8, 2005 with 76% of the vote, legally banning marriages not consisting of one man and one woman in Texas. It also prevents jurisdictions from creating other statuses identical or similar to marriage. Legal ChallengeOn October 1, 2009, this amendment was struck down by District Judge Tena Callahan. However, this ruling was later reversed by the Fifth Court of Appeals on August 31, 2010. This court further ruled that district courts did not have the jurisdiction to hear same-sex divorce cases. StatuteThe Texas Family code Sec. 6.204 (Divorce) (b) states that a union between members of the same-sex is void in the state.
