No surprise that this came from Faux News. The provision reportedly only protects proprietary information gathered from regulated firms during the course of examinations or investigations, which mirrors exemptions that existed for decades for bank regulators.
It's really not as controversial as the Becks of the world would want you to fear. If you had proprietary information, you wouldn't want it made public through a FOIL request. It's quite reasonable.
The SEC is a federal agency and subject to federal disclosure laws. Please cite your reference for alleging that they are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA.
