My guess is the Jackbooted thugs that are now running the government wanted to shut down the investigation that Fox News was preparing on the SEC.

No surprise that this came from Faux News. The provision reportedly only protects proprietary information gathered from regulated firms during the course of examinations or investigations, which mirrors exemptions that existed for decades for bank regulators.

It's really not as controversial as the Becks of the world would want you to fear. If you had proprietary information, you wouldn't want it made public through a FOIL request. It's quite reasonable.
