The Global War on Terrorism commenced on 9/11. The military campaigns of Operations Iraqi Freedom & Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) are (or were) part of this war.
By July 1942, the Japanese had already attacked the US and the war was already underway. Before the war began, the US had various war plans for the possibility of war with Japan. But none of these war plans included a US attack on Japan to start the war. All US plans assumed that the Japanese would start the war in one way or another, usually with a Japanese attack on the US forces on the Philippines. The US President had specifically told the US Army & US Navy leaders not to cause a war with Japan by accidental or intentional military action.
Since Britain was an established military and national empire; it simply had to destroy what they considered a "new" military, and a "new" un-civilized nation. They intended to defeat the US on the battlefield, and then destroy it's national capital. Both were done...but the war was nearly a draw anyway.
Anti-Draft movement disguised as an anti-war movement. People didn't care about the war (most people didn't even know where Vietnam was anyway); they just didn't want to be forced to go there (by being drafted into the US Army or US Marine Corps).
There really wasn't much choice. After Pearl Harbor was bombed the US declared war on Japan and as a result Germany, who was an ally of Japan, declared war on US. We would have gotten involved anyway because the goal of Germany was world domination. The plan was beat England and then invade the US.
Since the US did not declare war on North Vietnam but bombed them anyway, North Viet ground defense system personnel operating SAMs (Surface to Air Missiles), radar, and other AAA (Anti-Aircraft Artillery) systems referred to downed US airmen (shot down US jet aviators) as "air pirates." And the North had a tough time considering (accepting the fact) downed US airmen as legitimate POWs (Prisoners of War).
No war was going on between 1929 and 1940. With the US, anyway.
Un-restricted submarine warfare. If it wasn't for that, the US would not have entered the war. As it was, the US was only in it for a year anyway...it ended in 1918 (the US entered the war in 1917).
Let them take the place; they were working on it anyway.
It would have obviously led to a war which is what happened anyway.
Then there would be blood and war all over the US .Why do you ask anyway?
The European Theater of the war desperately needed the help America could provide for it. Adolph Hitler declared war on the US anyway about a week after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. We had to help our Allies on both thearters of the war.

they were against the krauts before us as we were against japan as of pearl harbour or that was america, anyway, they were in it for stalingrad

It did not effect the cold war in anyway
On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces began the agression of the US Civil War. They did so on a fort that was so low on food that it would have surrendered anyway within a week.
