Amendments are additions or changes to the U.S Constitution.

As time changes, it is necessary for laws to change as well. Adding an amendment allows the Constitution to change with the times. The alternative would be abolishing the Constitution and instating a new government, which I don't see happening peacefully.

The purpose of an amendment is to change or add to the existing Constitution in order to address evolving societal needs, correct any flaws or ambiguities in the original document, and protect individual rights and liberties. It provides a mechanism for making alterations to the Constitution while maintaining the overall framework and principles of the government.
