& the give 1/3 of the meet to the poor , 1/3 to families & friends. 1/3 to themselves. Eid al adha means the sacrifice of the sheep !
The first eid "eid al fitr = breaking the fast" follows the holly fasting month of Ramadan; it is a festival of eating and lawfal enjoynment. The second eid is "eid al adha = eid of the sacrfice" it's on the 10th day of the Islamic 12th month "Thu Alhejjah" and it commomorates the the event when our great father (prophet Ibraham) was going to sacrifice his only first and eldest son "Ishmael" in the wilderness of paran (Makkah). The word "Eid" comes from the Arabic root word that means to return or repeat; the eids are called so because they repeate/return every year at the same time. Thx.

There are two main annual festivals (or eids) and one week festival (or eid) in Islam. Namely, Eid ul Fitr (the first day after end of Ramadan; the ninth month in the Islamic Lunar Calendar) and Eid ul Adha (on the 12th month in the Islamic Lunar Calendar) in addition to Friday every week.
