because the storys are passed down generations and bits are Added each time or people couldn't remember the exact words of Jesus

AnswerNot all of the Gospels actually state what His last words were. People have made a contradiction out of it by wrongly assuming the last words quoted equate to the actual last words. This is not necessarily so. Only Luke specifies what the last words were.

Mark's Gospel, the first New Testament gospel to be written, says that Jesus' last words were, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Mark 15:34)" This was taken by the author from Psalm 22:1, but is also a chiastic reference back to Mark 14:36, where Jesus prayed that God relieve him of his destiny: "And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt."

In copying Mark's Gospel, the author of Matthewrecognised this to be an Old Testament reference and thus kept the same words as in Mark.

The author of Luke's Gospel also copied Mark's Gospel for much of his narrative, but did not wish to have Jesus appear unwilling to die.Instead, he chose as the last words "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (Luke 23:46)."

For the author of John, Jesus was divine and pre-existing. This meant that Jesus knew from the beginning what his mission would be and how he would die. Knowing all these things, it was only necessary for Jesus to conclude with "It is finished (John 19:30)".

Should we believe Jesus Christ if He said that Prophet Elijah was reincarnated as John the Baptist?

AnswerThe answer is in the following: In the gospels, Jesus did not actually say John the Baptist was the reincarnation of Elijah - we should not hypothesise about words not credited to JesusAccording to the gospels, Jesus met Elijah at his Transfiguration - there is no suggestion that the person he was meeting was also John the Baptist.

Were the gospels written while Jesus was alive?

No. It is without doubt that some part of the information we have in the New Testament-particulary the words and deeds of Jesus- was for at least some time transmitted in a purely or primarily oral medium. It was not until after the time of Jesus' ministry that the process of the committing of oral tradition into writing took place.

What is know of the actual word of Jesus?

Although the gospels quote the words of Jesus in precise detail, we do not really know if they reflect anything Jesus really said. The Jesus Seminar concluded that just 18 per cent of sayings and stories about Jesus to be authentic, but critics such as Robert M. Price regard even this figure as overly optimistic.
