Youth is caught up with new life whereas the elderly are given to reflection upon their past and realize that they are closer to the end than the beginning and wonder about the future that lies beyond this world and this life .
The question is not correct. Many folks are caught up with their family's religion in their youth but become aware of inconsistencies and errors in religious positions as they become more educated, exposed to alternate worldviews, experienced and aware in later life. They then adopt other religions, agnostic or atheist points of view.
