The notion that Germany became a nation in 1648 is nonsense. An awareness German national cultural identity is older. However, Germany didn't become a nation-state still with a central Germany government till 1871.

Yes, 1618-1648 are years of the Thirty Years' War, which was fought primaly on present Germany terrains and involved most of European countries (Poland was neutral).
Germany's main allies prior to World War 1 were Austria-Hungary and Italy. These countries formed the Triple Alliance in 1882, which was a defensive alliance aimed at countering the influence of France and Russia in Europe.
Germany is its own country.

Germany is a state.
In the nation that Nuremberg is (Germany)
Germany annexed territories prior to World War 2 because of some crazy assumptions made in the Treaty of Versalles following World War 1. Following World War 1, The Treaty of Versalles split the great empires of Europe into a number of much smaller states. Germany remained rather large in comparison, as did Russia. An assumption was made that if any nation attacked, the other nations would come to its defense. That concept proved to be a fallacy. When Germany began annexing other nations, no one nation existed that could join in defending it. Germany only attacked one nation at a time. Finally England and France decided to join together to put a stop to Germany.
Same as it was after the war; no change.
