∙ 12y agoThere could have been several reasons for the three days in the tomb. Many people think that he must have been unconscious and/or unaware. The Bible tells us that Jesus did not spend those three days in the tomb. He descended to Abraham's Bosom to retrieve the dead saints that had been waiting for thousands of years for his return. The bible also tells us that He visited Hades (hell) but is unclear what he did there. It's possible He conversed with the unrepentant but we just don't know.
Another possibility is that He wanted to get the point across that He really was dead. After three days it was a pretty good guess that He could not be alive. When He was resurrected on the third day and was seen by numerous people it must have made quite an impression on those who witnessed this miracle. Of course there is no way to know for sure and can only make educated guesses. Whatever the reason, God knew in his infinate wisdom, what was best.

∙ 9y agoYes, and 3 days. Suggest reading each Gospel account noting that there were 2 Sabbaths during that event - dies around 3 PM on daylight portion of Passover (days begin and end at sunset). Had to be buried before the Annual Sabbath of the 1st Day of Unleavened Bread (sunset that day see Luke 24:44). Rises and is seen on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) during the dark hours - equivalent to our early A.M..

No he was not wrong but right as he always is. He was crucified on Thursday, and he spent that night and Friday and Saturday nights in the grave. It is written in John 19.31 that the Sabbath day after Jesus' death was a high day, or a holy convocation, as the Bible talks of in Leviticus 23.4 to 8 and in Exodus 12.14 to 16. So it was not necessarily a Saturday; in fact in the light of Jesus prophecy about Jonah, that day could not have been a Saturday

Because they asked Jesus for a sign of His Messiahship, He told them the only sign would be that of Jonah - a comparison or 'parable' of what was about to occur.
