They were put into camps.
The racist Americans of the 1940s realized they could not put all the Italians and Germans into internment camps to weed out spies. They would have had to put half of New York City citizens into internment camps. There were millions of them in the US at that time as there are now too. There were not as many Japanese so they put them into the camps illlegally.
It was not the Italians that created the putting out of shoes on a porch for Santa Clause to put candy in. It was the Germans that created this tradition.
They were put in concentration camps and extermination camps.
The reasons are rather Un-American. The people of the government overreacted and wanted to round up all the Germans, Italians and Japanese to see if they were spies and keep them interned. They did not put the Germans and Italians into camps because famous people told the government people it would be unfair and impossible with the amount of Germans and Italians in the United States. No one spoke up on behalf of the Japanese. So they were interned unconstitutionally and unfairly. They could not understand the Japanese people had no allegiance to Japan and were not spies.
The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and the USA then set up internment camps for any Japanese living in the USA. The Japanese were put into internment camps as they were considered a threat to the country. Here in the UK they did the same thing with Italians and Germans living in the UK.
The U.S. sent Japanese Americans to Internment camps, right after Pearl Harbor, so they could keep an eye on them.
The Germans killed Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and handicapped people in the camps.

The Germans in the concentration camps were mostly responsible for security, they were the guards and the executioners.
