It was pretty much straight after WW2 and no one really wanted to get back into another one. THE MANE REASON is because nuclear weapons was now introduced with both sides neither wanting to be blown to shreds. America at one point was on DefCom2 which is one level away from NUCLEAR WAR! It was a war but with no actual fighting hence the name 'cold' war. They ended up fighting about technology and which race was the better technologically advanced. for example the space race, the arms race and so on.

Besides who wants to go to war, no one in the WW1 or WW2 wanted to go to war. it was because they had to. (except for Hitler ofcourse!)

Both USSR and USA came out of WWII very rich and very powerful. The problem was the difference in ideology. The USSR were a Communist Country and the US were a capitalist country. Both of which wanted to push their Ideology on the other. Therefore, creating tension. This effectively starting the Cold war. The "Iron Curtain" which ran down the middle of Europe was the "front line" for the years to follow
