Because the Air Forceconsiders us to be mentally unstable. You can join the Air Force from the Marines but you need to pass a mental evaluation Last I heard was that if you are an Infantry Marine good luck ever joining the Air Force and as a Grunt myself who would want to. Semper Fi!
The AF would take you if you had a skill they were seeking. It also depends on what the end strength is for that year in that AFSC (MOS) and how recruiting is going for the field you are in. Of course you would have to have evaluations and so on, but the AF would take you if they needed you for a specific job. You can bet your behind that if you spoke Arabic, or had a real specialized skill set that was hard to come by, and you had a clean record that you could come on board.
When I was in the AF I met a nurse who was a former marine, finished his enlistment, went to college/nursing school, and then came into the AF as a nurse - it can happen.
