Most of the time, it is threaded wrong or the bobbin is in backwards. The best bet is to rethread from the spool and also check to see how the bobbin is put back in it's case. Check the manual that came with the machine. If you don't have the manual you can find it probably online. Also, check that the needle is inserted correctly and also that it is in all the way. Clean out the bobbin area and be sure the thread is not getting stuck on the spool as it is coming off. Sometimes there is a burr on the spool and it catches as it is going into the machine.
To begin with, make sure it is plugged in and threaded properly. Also, ensure the hand wheel is tightened. Beyond those things, you may need hands on help.
