Why would a man not wish a woman well who wanted to move on with her life because he has a baby with someone else?

Because the man is selfish, self-centered and on an ego trip. He wants his cake and eat it too. Not only that he hasn't been honest to this woman from the beginning. When two people meet and fall in love it is up to both of them to be as honest as possible about important things in their past such as having a child with another person. If this man has fathered a child while going with this women then all I can say is ... good for her for moving on! Why should the woman care if he wishes her well or not. It's her life, just move on. Perhaps the woman cares because they were friends, and despite the circumstances, she would like things to feel resolved and left on a positive note. Closure - many women require it. As for him, he may not do so because he is selfish, as already suggested.

Answer Women aren't the only ones who talk to ex's, men do it too and they do it because they once shared a comon goal. Because a woman talks to an ex, doesn't mean that she wants him back in her life, evidently if she wanted that you would no longer be in the picture.
