Hard Disk Drives can give your computers much more capacity in terms of space. This can help speed up your computer, but only a bit. For normal operations, adding Random Acess Memory would be a better idea. A good processor would also help. For gaming graphics, a good graphics card would help, especially those with their own fans and their own memory to process. Update: Other that what listed above, even the HDD RPM speed and harddisk buffer memory also impacts the performance of a computer. Higher RPM disks and with optimum buffer memory size can help you a lot in terms of speed of loading of programs and read/write/copy/move operations on data. - Neeraj Sharma

What does it mean when a computer has a speed of 2.5ghz?

That's the speed the clock inside the Central Processor Unit operates. The faster the clock - the more operations per second the computer can perform.

How does computer do math so fast?

The speed at which a computer executes mathematical operations is very fast compared to, say, mental arithmetic in an average human's brain, because the computer uses specialized hardware to perform elementary arithmetic and trigonometric mathematical operations at extremely high speed, and very high clock frequencies which allow combining many of those elementary operations into more complex mathematical operations.

Explain the speed of the computer?

Computers have many different components with different parts. The higher speed of that component, the faster the computer does that job. For example, even though they are more expensive and hold less data, SSDs are faster than most hard drives. Therefore, the computer boots faster, and file operations are faster. The primary factor in how fast a computer itself works is usually the processer. The faster the processor is (more gigahertz), the faster the computer can make calculations.

What is FLOPS?

million floating point operations per second A megaflop is a measure of a computer's speed and can be expressed as: A million floating point operations per second.

Under computer advantages what's the meaning of speed?

When we speak of computer speed we are referring to the number of CPU cycles per second. The higher the frequency, the more operations we can perform in a given time frame. Supercomputers, however, are measured in terms of floating point operations per second.

What does RAID10 mean in computing?

RAID10 is a subsystem that increases safety of a computer. It does this by writing the same data on two computer drives. Also while doing this, it increases the speed by interleaving data across two or more mirrored virtual drives.

What is a petafop?

A petaflop is a measure of a computer's processing speed:- A thousand trillion floating point operations per second (FLOPS)

Can installing a second hard drive help your computer work faster?

Since hard drives seldom affect a computer's speed, no. It will only give you more space for storage.

What is the definition of the word Computer?

also called processor. an electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations.
