It depends on what type of jewels or gems you are talking about. Lava may not be hot enough to melt those jewels that are a product of high temperature formation. Gemstone melting points vary greatly.

Diamonds are blasted to the surface of the earth through volcanic pipes that contain trace minerals, such as kimberlite and lamproite. This composition is different from the more common 'molten rock' that we know as lava.

∙ 13y agoYou would have a lava clump that encased a diamond. Once cooled, you could chip away the lava and find your diamond.
