No one knows quite when the world will end, yet the thought of it ending in 5 billion years is not really that relevant since obviously neither you nor I will ever live that long to see if it is true or not. :)
Yes, our star (the Sun) is fusing hydrogen in its core at the moment. In about 4 billion years from now, it will run out of hydrogen and switch over to fusing helium. When it does this it will become much hotter and will therefore expand into a red giant star. The surface of the Sun will then be at or near where the Earth orbits the Sun. This means that Earth will likely be destroyed by then.
I don't think so that's a little to long and besides i don't think god wants to wait that long.
