You had replaced the hard drive on your compaq laptop and when you inserted the Windows XP disk the laptop does not respond its just a blank screen how do you install windows?
Answer Windows XP does not support installation in a SATA environment. This is especially prevalent within Compaq/HP systems. The first solution is to take out the Wind…ows CD from your CD-Rom, restart your computer and enter BIOS Hardware Configuration (by pressing a function key like f10, or del or esc... depending on your model computer/BIOS). Once in Hardware Configuration, disable Native SATA support for your CD-Rom drive. Save settings and exit BIOS. Now put in your Windows XP CD and restart your computer. It should be now be able to read the CD and continue with the installation. Answer Does it go through the POST? (power on self test) You should see the computer send up some kind of messages that come from the BIOS as the computer attempts to boot. If the computer is just complaining that it can't find a boot sector on your hard drive, no problem. If it isn't completing the POST, you need to take care of that before you can go on. Whatever it takes for YOUR version of BIOS, you will need to get into the bios settings. Sometimes it's F8, sometimes it's ESCAPE, just watch the boot sequence and hit the appropriate key to get into the BIOS settings. Then you'll have to change the boot sequence so that the computer will attempt to boot from CD FIRST. After that, you should be able to load windows.
Answer You'll need to partition the disk so that you can have space for both OS's. Then you'll need a bootloader, such as LILO (Linux Loader) or some other bootlo…ader that lets you select the OS. Install whatever Windows OS you need into one partition while the other partition is disabled. Windows will take over every partition on the computer if it can. Then enable the other partition and load whatever OS you want. After that, install the bootloader. Recognize that if you're using Linux of almost any flavor LILO is already there. Good luck.
Answer The hard drive is not configured to your PC's settings. Re-install the OS on the new HDD.

I Have Windows Vista on a new laptop But I can't access files in a user account protected by a password on a hard disk drive that was installed in another PC running Windows Xp?
ANSWER: I think they are asking about accessing password protected files, not the administratord password. You can't do it. The whole point of someone putting password protect…ion on a file is to prevent someone else from accessing it. ALTERNATE: If you are system administrator on the Vista machine, it is possible to open up files (i.e. "My Documents") under a protected user's folder on the secondary HDD that was running XP. To do this, you have to open up the XP HDD, right-click on the folder you are trying to access, and edit its security options. Give yourself ("Admin") the rights to write and read to it, and be sure to apply it to all of its subfolders as well - or you'll be there for a while. Any drive attached to a Windows OS, excluding encrypted information and code-locked hardware, is subject to the whims of that PC's Administrator. there are some free password changers http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Change the hdd type from sata to ide.. Change the hdd type from sata to ide.. The only way to install XP over Vista is to first format the hard drive, thus removing all trac…es of Vista and clearing the HDD of any information that may cause a conflict. Once formatted, XP SHOULD install as it would on any new system. Alternatively, buy an Apple Mac and save yourself the trouble of continually upgrading a windows based PC just to line the pockets of Microsoft :)
Boot into Mandriva and shrink your XP partition to a reasonable size, then format the remaining space, minus a few GB, with ext4, and the few GB left over, format as 'swap'. Y…ou can do all this with gparted (I THINK that's included on the disk by default - if not you can download and install it from their repositories). Then on installation just install the data onto the ext4 and register the swap partition as well...swap
I want to install windows xp in to sata hard disk but when you are trying to install xp it saying no hard disk found?
This is a common problem with first time Sata HDD users. Don't worry see carefully in your Motherboard you have 4 slots where you can plug the 'RED' cable of the HDD. Try plug…ging it in each of the slot, it works if you try again and again. If all fail just pull out all the cables of HDD wipe them clean and try again. P.S. - check for scribbling noise from the HDD if its there go replace it at once they wount charge you (if its under warrenty!). GRat There might be a problem of drivers. Windows XP does not include the SATA drivers but during setup you can provide additional drivers using a floppy disk. There is also a trick that allows you to integrate the SATA driver on your install CD using nLite Serge
You need to partition the disk. You can then have any OS you wish and boot to the one of your choice.
I'm assuming you have a Portege laptop. See the Related Links section below for a link to some A200 drivers. Maybe this will help.
This can be indicative of a damaged or faulty CD. If it is a genuine Windows CD, check for scratches or other surface damage. If it is not a genuine CD then it is possib…le that not all the files that are needed are present on the disk. This is also likely if the CD is one that was supplied with another computer, as these usually only contain the files needed for that particular hardware configuration. However, this can also be indicative of a fault on the computer itself. If a hard drive is faulty in one particular place, this can present itself during the installation process as a failure to copy files. To eliminate this, try installing the CD on another computer. Finally there could be a fault with the optical drive itself. If this is the case, try a drive cleaner or try installing from an external optical device.
use a program to rip your winxp disk into an ISO file. then use a program called nLite to slipstream Sata drivers into an ISO file of your winxp disk. then burn the iso back t…o CD and boot with it. do a Google for "slipstream xp nlite" without the quotes and you will soon find a tutorial.
That's because the A200-ST2043 has a SATA hard drive. Windows XP has no built-in support for SATA hard drives. The simplest solution is to enter your BIOS and switch the… chipset to operate in "IDE emulation" or "Legacy" mode. This will present the hard drive as an older IDE drive and allow Windows XP to see it.
You can't; there's nothing to install it to.
You can buy online on http://www.amazon.com, visit this site and search for the Windows edition you need. You can also try ebay.com
It depends if you are trying to put it on and it won't work, or if it doesn't say it is designed for it. If you are trying to put it on and it won't work, you can't get it to …work. If it says it isn't designed for it, it only means it was designed to have a different Operating System. So, it might work. But if it is a really old laptop, chances are it won't work.
