1. It will ask you if you have a mac or windows computer, Choose your computer.
2. Plug in your IpodTouch and then turn off your device.
3. Steps will apear on the screen, you MUST follow these steps if you want to jailbreak. If it says at the end that it is unable to work you need to retry.
4. Once past this step the Ipod touch will light up and a blur of words come up on the screen. If this hapens then your system is currently jalbreaking.
5. At the end it will say do disconnect your device.
6. Then connect your Ipod Touch to your WI-FI signal. A new application named 'CYDIA' will be downloaded. Click on it.
7. A percentage bar will pop up and once it reaches to 100% you have completely and successfully jailbroken your Ipod.
8. You can now download free games, apps, hacks/cheats through CYDIA

You can't. Apple never released a firmware higher than 3.1.3 for the iPod 1G. However, If you want to upgrade to 3.1.3, all you have to do is download the firmware, (just google ipod firmware and it should be the first link) then connect your iPod to iTunes and then hold down shift (or option if you are on a mac) and left lick on update. If that doesn't work, then try doing the same thing, but click restore.
