Even though "television", when used as a short form for "television receiver" is a singular and concrete noun, it can have many uses and abuses, because uses and abuses are both at least partially abstract nouns and therefore do not contradict the law of elementary physics that "Only one thing can be in one place at one time." This law applies only to concrete "things" and also depends on definitions of "time" and "place" that do not apply to abstract nouns.
