"Failed" and healed itself - can't complain about that!
On the other hand, if by 'failed' you mean the ABS warning light came on and now is off, that is very likely an indicator that one of the wheel sensors was temporarily blocked from getting a good read on the 'exciter ring', or possibly one of the wiring connectors is suspect.
You really need to get the system inspected. It may not be a budget-breaker type problem.
Note: if one of the sensors goes out, you won't have either the ABS braking, nor the traction control. I made that mistake last Fall and didn't have either for the entire winter driving season.
