you may have an auto trans leak look underneath car and underside of driveline is there evidense of red oil..pour some auto fluid in transmission usually through dipstick tube 2 litres will do it. if this works go get it checked by mechanic
Try checking the fuse.
If speedometer itself is working then gears inside the assembly are damaged.
These were good cars but the distibutors had problems.
that sounds like your transsion you should have it looked at although you can drive it with out reverse for quite a while
The main problem might just be you mate.
In the 1988 Nissan the alternator, instrument panel, and backup lights shared a fuse. Before changing a fuse see if the backup lights work (have someone watch when you are in reverse). If the neutral start/backup light switch is broken internally, it can be blowing the fuse when you put the car in reverse.
have you tried your reverse band. my 93 beretta has no reverse and that's what is wrong with it.have you tried your reverse band. my 93 beretta has no reverse and that's what is wrong with it.
More than likely you have a valve cover leak. You probably need to replace the gasket(s).
