Henry David Thoreau (Born: 1817 Died: 1862) was an American writer and philosopher. He believed strongly in the importance of individuality and he was an acclaimed Transcendentalist. He was able to attend college at Harvard University greatly in part to his brother, John, paying for his tuition.
