Yes, one can live without a heart, but the function of the heart must be replaced by another item performing the same tasks, that is circulating a person's blood.

Science has developed "heart machines" that can do so for short terms, such as during and shortly after various operations.

However, without blood circulation, the body ceases to be able to survive.

well the brain is connected to the brainstem which controls about everything in your body including your heart it makes it pump blood and oxcygen but if your blood doesn't get oxcygen you will die or probably get really sick so i would say NO!!! actually you can live without a brain, infact there is a baby who only has a brain stem and is living up to 2 years old, although he cant hear see smell or do anything hes basically a vegtibale type on YouTube Nicholas Coke... this is the younge baby who has lived for 2 years with only a brain stem.

actually it is possible, but you have to be under machines that keep your blood circulating, they did this to a guy who needed a heart transplant and he spent 48 days without a heart until he got a new heart.

If we didn't have a heart, not only would the circulatory system stop working, the whole body would stop working. All of our organs inside our body depend on blood from the heart to provide them with energy. If there isn't a heart, there's no blood in the body. If there's no blood in our body, the other organs won't have enough energy to perform their functions, so they'll stop working too.

You could live longer without your heart than you could without your brain, though not that much, just a few minutes longer. You wouldn't be able to live at all without your brain, since it controls every part of your body, and tells your heart when to beat and pump blood. Without the heart, which supplies oxygen-rich blood to the rest of your body, including your brain, your body would slowly die from oxygen deprivation. So either way, you're going to die, the brainless way is just quicker. Much quicker. Like, instant-death quicker.

No, you cannot live without a heart. The heart pumps the blood around your body and to your brain. your brain needs blood, without the heart your brain will stop working. And you CANNOT live without a brain. Now can you?

NO. But our cerebrum is very adaptable. You can have a large brain tumor, that compresses healthy cerebrum in a small space, but you would still live normally.

How long can you live without a beating heart?

You can not survive without your heart!. It pumps the blood throughout the entire body!. During a surgery like a heart transplant, they connect the body to a machine that "mimicks" the same function as the heart while the actual transplant is occuring!. If a person's heart stops from a heart attack or something, the longer it takes to revive the person, the higher chance there is for brain damage and eventually death to occur!. Let's say a person is revived after 45 minutes of CPR!.!.!.chances are there will be little to no brain activity left because of the damage that occured while the heart was not beating!. That's why it's so important to act fast when a person is having a heart attack!

Why cant a person live without the heart?

Because the heart works to pump blood throughout our body. No blood, no life. Your heart stops working, our brain, which allows us to do everything we do, would die along with the rest of our body which is entirely dependent on the brain. The brain being quite dependent on how the heart beats, having it beat properly.

Has anyone lived without the heart?

A person with a non-functioning SA node may live out their life normally, since there are other cells in the heart that possess pacemaker capabilities. The heart would continue to beat in this situation, although at a slower pace._____________________________________________________________________ It depends on how well the body can cope with a slow heart rate. Excerise would be dangerous because the heart would NOT be able to speed up properly. In this case if the SA node - fails a pacemaker can be fitted. Other heart cells can take over as the hearts pacemaker. Junctional escape will occur for more information visit my pageHow_heart_works

Does your brain keep your heart going or does you heart keep your brain going?

Your heart supplies the blood to your brain, however even if your brain is "braindead", your heart can still stay beating. The brain relies on the heart but not as much vice versa. When a person dies from a gunshot wound to the head, the body dies and of course, the heart stops. Either way, no-one can live without one, the other or a substitution. They are both essential to survival.
