Believe it or not, there is a difference - you just need to know what to look for.

Arrogance is just someone thinking or acting like they know it all - they may or may not be very knowledgeable in some areas they're arrogant about. Only you would know in the case you're describing. While they're a social PITA, they're relatively harmless. Just a$$holes.

Narcissists? You'll know the difference - trust me. There is nothing logical or rational about anything they do. Regardless of the circumstance, ANY circumstance, they will manipulate a conversation or event in order to make things fit their own view of the world. It is downright scary at how they behave - deep down you KNOW something is wrong beyond just a smarta$$. It's an obsession at all levels.

My guess is that if you have to ask the question, you're only dealing with arrogance. If you were dealing with Narcissism, you'd know it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Regardless of what it is, what you say, what you do, that person will skew things to their own way of thinking.

My best friend got suckered into marrying such a person, and he was fortunate enough to realize what was happening before it got too far.

As an example, a person who's arrogant might argue that they know Airport Security/TSA regulations better than you, but wouldn't be stupid enough to test it out in real life. A narcissist, having had an argument about a similar topic, would put restricted items in the carry on bag of the person they had the argument with about the regualations, and when those items were flagged by TSA, would proceed to argue with THEM about it. Farfetched? Truth is stranger than Fiction as the saying goes, as this is exactly something that happened to my friend. Being FBI it was even more embarrassing.

Like I said - you'll know the difference. I just pray you never see it or become involved with it.
