In the business world, the bottom line is the most important thing. Companies need to meet their expected profit margins in order to stay viable. With that in mind, they hire people to handle the budgeting aspect of things. If they are going to stay financially strong, then they have to have strong budgets to carry them through the year. Budgeting is a hugely important thing that requires much financial skill and some business acumen, as well. Those who take jobs in this field are hugely important to the company’s success and enjoy a solid amount of professional security.

Getting into budgeting

There are multiple doors to the budgeting industry, and most start with a background in finance or accounting. Many students go through the accounting coursework, but don’t want to deal with the CPA exam. They have a perfect background for crunching numbers and setting up corporate budgets. Others just have a business or finance background and learn as they go. Budgeting professionals often have to work closely with the people spending the money, so having some business skills can go a long way.

What do they make?

Budgeting professionals usually start out relatively low on the corporate ladder, but it all depends upon the company they work for. Those at small companies can expect salaries in the $50,000 range to begin with. Those who work for larger companies can expect salaries closer to $65,000. As they advance in the corporate world, these people can plan to make much more money. Responsibility will grow and the salary will reflect that fact.

What do they do?

Much of what a budgeting professional will do involves mundane paperwork. They crunch numbers, do fact finding, and come up with ways for the company to cut costs. In some corporate environments, they will serve as the individuals who monitor spending. This can be a thankless job, as they have to tell many people no in regards to their requests for additional funding. For people who love the business world and like to work with structured numbers, this is the perfect place to get started. It is not glamorous work, but it is important.

When you are creating a budget or trying to figure out how much money you need for electricity, it is important to figure out how much you tend to use electricity. Do you cook a lot? Do you watch a lot of television and movies? Are your kids constantly playing Video Games and leaving their video game consoles on? If you said yes, then chances are, your bill is going to be higher than someone who eats out a lot, reads in the evenings and does not have any children. Determining what kind of usage you tend to have as well as what kind of home you live in will go a long way in estimating the average cost of electricity per month. A small apartment and a four bedroom house are going to have much different averages. If you are conservative with energy, 'green' conscious, and take active steps to keep your bill low, then chances are, your bill could be as low as $60 per month. If you turn your heat up, open your windows and play Halo for seven hours per day with the lights on, you can expect to pay closer to $320 per month.
