A lab is not a place to be if you have not been properly trained in lab safety. There are so many things that can go wrong unless you know what to do and what not to do when in a lab. What are some things you need to know if you want to avoid a disaster in the lab?

Wear Safety Goggles At All Times

You should always wear safety goggles whenever you are in the lab. If a chemical were to splash in your eyes, you could lose your vision if you were not wearing any eye protection. You never know when something could fall into your eyes. Putting on a pair of goggles is certainly worth your vision.

Gloves Should Be Worn At All Times

Gloves should be made mandatory for anyone who is in a lab. At best, you could contaminate an experiment if you have residue on your hands. At worst, you could burn your skin or hurt your hands in some other way. Anyone who gets hurt in a lab may not be able to get reimbursement for medical bills that result from treating your injuries.

Make Sure Everything Is Labeled

Everything in the lab should be properly labeled. This will ensure that nothing is mixed, consumed or allowed into the air that should not be allowed to. Everyone will be able to avoid making mistakes that could ruin a life let alone ruin a lab experiment. Make sure that your lab has a safety program in place to train everyone regarding proper lab etiquette.

The lab is a place where you need to be careful at all times. Don't think for even a second that you are immune from getting hurt while handling chemicals and other objects. You don't want to be a casualty when you are just trying to carry out a simple research project.
