Bacille Calmette–Guérin, an avirulent strain of Mycobacterium bovis.

  • BCG test — is sometimes used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis in dogs as being more reliable and sensitive than tuberculin testing.
  • BCG vaccination — has been used in the control of tuberculosis in cattle but has many disadvantages, especially interference with tuberculin testing, and is not recommended for use unless the prevalence of the disease is very high.
  • BCG vaccine — contains living BCG organisms. It was developed for use in the control of tuberculosis in humans. Contains living BCG organisms. Is used as a nonspecific stimulant to antibody production in chronic diseases, e.g. equine sarcoid and neoplasia in dogs.
