Chris Pine

, Actor

  • Born: 26 August 1980
  • Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
  • Best Known As: Lord Nicholas Devereaux from The Princess Diaries 2

Chris Pine is a third-generation Hollywood actor who shot to stardom on the strength of his role as Anne Hathaway's love interest in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). He grew up in Los Angeles, the son of actors Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford and the grandson of actress Anne Gwynne. Chris graduated from the University of California in Berkeley and, after a couple of years of dabbling in theater, began getting TV guest roles in 2003. His turn as Lord Nicholas Devereaux in the sequel to 2001's The Princess Diaries made him a teen heartthrob and his career was off and running. Although audiences were small for his 2006 films, Just My Luck and Smokin' Aces, both films had a "buzz" that helped keep Pine in the public eye. (Just My Luck was blessed/cursed with Lindsay Lohan as its star, and Smokin' Aces was supposed to be that year's Quentin Tarantino movie not made by Tarantino.) Pine's status as "one to watch" was secured with the 2007 announcement that he had been cast as Captain James T. Kirk in another film version of Star Trek.

His dad played Sgt. Joe Getraer in the TV series CHiPs (1977-83).

In 2004, he appeared in Why Germany?, a short film, and in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Pine was one of several love interests of Anne Hathaway's character in the film, which was released in August of that year to a strong box office. Pine appears in the comedy, Blind Dating and in the action film Smokin' Aces; he filmed both of the roles in 2005.

As of June 2006, Pine was in negotiations to star in an untitled post-apocalyptic thriller set in the American West.[2] In 2008, Pine will appear in Bottle Shock, an indie drama about the birth of the Napa Valley wine business[citation needed], and will play a young James T.
