In technical analysis, the movement of an asset's price within a well-defined pattern or barrier of trading levels. Consolidation is generally regarded as a period of indecision, which ends when the price of the asset breaks beyond the restrictive barriers. Periods of consolidation can be found in charts covering any time interval (i.e. hours, days, etc.), and these periods can last for minutes, days, months or even years. Lengthy periods of consolidation are often known as a base.

Investopedia Says:
The levels of resistance and support within the consolidation are created through the upper and lower bounds of the stock's price. Once the price of the asset breaks through the identified areas of support or resistance, volatility quickly increases and so does the opportunity for short-term traders to generate a profit.

In consolidation, the reporting mechanism is the entire group and not the separate companies. Note that the entities that make up the consolidated group retain their separate legal entity; adjustments and eliminations are for Consolidated Financial Statements only.

The reform and reorganization of land ownership in order to solve problems of fragmentation. In the late 1940s, much Spanish farmland was impossibly fragmented, especially in Galicia, where the average number of plots per farm was 32. Accordingly, a programme of land consolidation was begun in 1952 with the aim of creating for each farmer a single plot of land equal in area to his or her previous, scattered holdings, and with reasonable access to each farmer's house. Most progress has been made in central and northern Spain. A similar scheme is the French remembrement.

Consolidation makes co-operatives, mechanization, and irrigation more viable, but increased production depends on the type of land held. A major problem is later fragmentation.
