Dictionary of Dance: Doug Elkins

Elkins, Doug (b New York, 1950). US dancer and choreographer. He did not begin formal training until he was 19, but taught himself to dance at clubs. His background feeds into his style which is an electric mix of hip-hop, martial arts, ballet, and modern dance. He choreographs primarily for his own company, for example BipolarbearNOS (mus. Evren Celimi, 1998), but has also created works for other groups, such as Union Dance.
