Exchange of transactions between financial institutions participating in a bank card network, based on a common set of rules. Examples are the Visa and MasterCard national bank card systems and regional automated teller machine networks. Card interchange allows a bank's customer to use a bank credit card at any card honoring merchant, and gain access to multiple automated teller machine systems from a single ATM.
