Bertrand, Louis (1866-1941). French novelist best known for works such as Le Sang des races (1899), La Cina (1901), and Pépète le bien-aimé (1901), extolling the virtues of European colonists, particularly in French Algeria. An influential figure in French colonial literature, he championed the idea of a Mediterranean civilization based on the legacy of imperial Rome.
