Saint Lydia was a merchant of purple cloth in Thyatira who became one of the first Christian converts in Europe. She welcomed the Apostle Paul into her home in Philippi and was instrumental in the establishment of the early Christian community there. She is considered a patron saint of dyers, and her feast day is celebrated on August 3rd.
