There are a few, dangerous disease caused by algae. Humans are usually exposed to these disease by consuming these naturally occurring toxins in the algae. The most common algae-caused diseases are:

  • Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP)
  • Ciguatera Fish Poisoning (CFP)
  • Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP)
  • Neurotoxic Shellfish Poisoning (NSP)
  • Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP)
PSP and ASP can be life threatening.
