How do you get tinnitus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tinnitus is damage to the inner ear nerves which sense sound. Usually, the easiest way to damage them is prolonged exposure to loud noises or music. Concerts, airplane engines, and even headphones can damage nerves when loud enough. When damaged, the nerves create either a constant or patterned ringing in your ear. This ringing can dissipate if no actual damage is done. However, actual tinnitus is usually virtually permanent. Overtime, it can result in high stress, hearing trouble, and, in the worst cases, insanity.

Tinnitus vertigo and gradual hearing loss typify what disorder?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tinnitus and vertigo, two common neurological complaints, often challenge the physician's ability with respect to possible etiology. Objective tinnitus can result from an abnormally patent eustachian tube, from tetanic contractions of the muscles of the soft palate, or from vascular abnormalities within the head or neck. Subjective tinnitus refers to lesions involving the external ear canal, tympanic membrane, ossicles, cochlea, auditory nerve, brainstem, and cortex. As many as 50% of patients with tinnitus do not exhibit associated hearing loss; in these patients, the cause of the tinnitus is rarely identified. An illusion of movement is specific for vestibular system disease--a peripheral or central location depending upon associated audiologic and neurologic symptoms, respectively. However, a presyncopal, light-headed sensation is most commonly associated with diffuse cerebral ischemia: in the young patient, this may be caused by a hyperventilation syndrome; in the aged individual, this can result from diffuse atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease and decreased cardiac output. Postural and gait imbalance associated with acute vertigo indicates a unilateral peripheral vestibular or a central vestibular lesion; if vertigo is absent, either a cerebellar, proprioceptive, or bilateral peripheral vestibular lesion is likely. Transient oscillopsia suggests unilateral peripheral vestibular lesions. Permanent oscillopsia indicates a bilateral peripheral vestibular lesion or--in the absence of severe vertigo--brainstem or cerebellar damage.

Is there any drug to stop Tinnitus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Hearing aids, meditation, and herbal remedies are very expensive, and tinnitus sound therapy only provides a means of distraction. These are momentary relief. Think twice before going for the painful ear wax removal technique and expensive hearing aid because deaf people get Tinnitus too. The sound comes from the head, and it’s a certain part of the brain, sending those ringing sounds.

Sonus Complete helps repair the damaged cells of your brain. The pill improves the strength of the central nervous system and provides relief from Tinnitus. If you have suffered from Tinnitus, you know that there are several reasons, but all of these are associated with the nervous system.

Sonus Complete treats Tinnitus naturally and also treats underlying problems of hearing disorder. The supplement alters stress response and changes the brain’s perception of the condition. It manages the Tinnitus in the most pragmatic way as possible. It is the stress and the tension that makes the problem unbearable indeed.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus (from the Latin tinnitus or "ringing") is a condition characterized by ringing, swishing, or other noises that appear to be originating in the ear or head. Not normally a dangerous or serious problem, tinnitus is usually a symptom of some other underlying condition and most often considered a nuisance.

Who gets Tinnitus?

Although anyone can get tinnitus. This includes men, white people, older adults (over the age of 65), and those with age-related hearing loss. In addition, people who have been exposed to loud noises for extended periods of time and those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are known to have higher rates of tinnitus. On average 1 in 5 Americans are affected by Tinnitus.

What causes tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a symptom of a variety of health conditions, blood vessel disorders, and effects from medications. The most common causes of tinnitus are age-related hearing loss, exposure to loud noises, earwax blockage in the ear canal, and abnormal bone growth in the ear. Less common causes include an inner ear disorder called Meniere's disease, stress and depression, head or neck injuries, and a benign tumor of the cranial nerve called acoustic neuroma.

What are the symptoms of tinnitus?

Symptoms of tinnitus include hearing sounds when no external sound is present. The ears may sense ringing, buzzing, roaring, clicking, whistling, hissing, or squealing. Noises may appear low or high in pitch and may interfere with a person's ability to concentrate.

How can tinnitus be prevented?

Some types of tinnitus may be avoided by following preventive measures. For example, it is not recommended to use cotton swabs to clean the ears. In addition, tinnitus can be prevented by wearing ear plugs at work (if there is excessive noise), at rock concerts, at sporting events, and while hunting, using a lawnmower, and blow drying hair. Maintaining good cardiovascular health by exercising regularly may reduce the chances of developing tinnitus linked to blood vessel disorders.

There is a three step process that is available at po.st/wBXksY that has helped many individuals overcome their condition and has improved their quality of life.

Why does your tinnitus get worse when tired?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Stress is a frequent causative agent for tinnitus. It can also worsen existing tinnitus. Lack of sleep can definitely worsen tinnitus by adding stress. In our dream sleep ( REM sleep ) we effectively solve our problems. When REM sleep is suppressed and restful sleep is not obtained, the body is stressed and tinnitus typically can worsen.

What is the medical term meaning ringing in the ear?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The proper term for ringing buzzing or roaring in the ears is Tinnitus. The proper medical way to pronounce it is TIN-nit-us, not tin-I-tus (the second pronunciation would denote an inflammation, which tinnitus is not).

There are many causes of tinnitus, but in general it is caused by a disruption in the auditory pathway to the brain. The brain tries to interpret the random misfiring that this disruption causes, but it cannot. The hearing center of the brain (temporal lobe) sends the signal to the thinking part of your brain (frontal cortex) to help it out. When it reaches the frontal cortex is when you first perceive it. Hench, you then hear Tinnitus.
