02 Dodge Truck 1500 sluggish until it warms up now engine light on?

The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area

You should have a belt routing guide on the radiator support of the vehicle when you open the hood, somewhere around the hood latch. You will notice a spring tensioner pulley under the alternator, you can use a socket or a wrench to remove the belt, turn the tensioner clockwise to take the tension o…ff the belt to remove the belt. You do not need to remove anything other than the belt. Can be removed with fan shroud in place. Notice the belt routing guide while reinstalling. To install route the belt as in belt routing diagram, the tensioner will be the last pulley to put the belt over. Its a little easier to put the belt on the alternator last. Usually the wrench or socket gets in the way of trying to put the belt on the tensioner last. (MORE)
Put your tailgate down and take the screws off on the inside of the taillight. The screws are Torx screws, so you will need Torx head screw driver. Then just give it a tug and the cover will pop right off. You will be able to change out the bulb. Note : Torx srews are different from Philips… or flat-head screws so they require a Torx screw driver which has a star-shaped head. (MORE)
overdrive lockout . \n4th gear is overdrive. the computer locks out overdrive until the transmission fluid is up to normal operating temperature. once up to normal temp, the vehicle will shift into overdrive and all is well. there is only a problem if the vehicle does not shift into 4th AFTER …reaching proper operating temperature.\n. \nThe thinking is that the transmission warms up faster in 3rd than it would in 4th (overdrive). I believe this type of control is due to environmental laws, or fuel consumption considerations.\n. \nwhat confuses me is that the recommended operating procedure when towing or hauling is to manually lock out overdrive in an effort to keep trans fluid cooler.\n. \nhere you have specia controls built into the vehicle to warm up tans fluid faster by using 3rd gear. then, once up to normal temp, you need to lock out 4th because trans fluid will run cooler in 3rd. very odd. I been trying to find out why this is for a long time. (MORE)
Why would a 1997 Dodge Caravan engine make a tapping-ticking noise that went away after warming up but now is constant and seems to come from the top of the engine?
Answer . The 3.0L engine had a problem with the lifters that would cause the top end to tick. There is a TSB i believe on how to fix it. If the ticking is coming from the bottom of the engine (sometimes hard to tell) then you might have a Con-Rod knock that starting to show. Eitherway take it to …a mechanic for diagnoses. (MORE)
Answer . \nPurchase a repair manual at most parts stores, ( around $12 ) for detailed instructions on this and many other repairs.
Answer . \nIf you have removed the 2 screws in side the bed at the tailgate and having problems getting the light cover off. The best way that I have found is to spray some WD40 up in on the 2 rubber posts that are inside behind the light. This should make it just pop right off.
Answer . \nThere are 2 torex screws on the side that have to be removed. You have to open the tailgate to see these screws, once removed the taillight can be removed. It takes a bit of force however, there are also two pins that align it.
If you changed the spark plugs and wires on a 1994 Ford F-150 4.9 but now whenever the truck warms up the check engine light comes on what could be wrong?
the famous 300 , 6cyl Just a couple of thoughts, This could be completely coincidental as it was just an ignition tune-up 1st . Try and unhook your battery for 2 mins and clear any stored trouble codes in ECM, as you said if comes on after N.O.T. (normal operating temp) and system runs closed loop s…o all sensors and controls are activated 2nd . Double check your new plugs for correct heat range, I have heard sometimes if range is off it could throw off your o2 sensor as the engine doesn't run effeciently or burn correctly. 3rd . Again might be coincidence that light is on, if your truck is running the same it's not a hard code and truck is not in "limp" mode running like crap. if you plan on keeping your truck consider buying a code reader from a auto parts dealer, just a shot in the dark but hope it was of some help Jason (MORE)
Answer . \nThere should be a mark indicating a left side and right side for the cable. The top connection will have a clip to remove the cable. It just slides on the cable post inside the tailgate door housing. The bottom connection requires the post to be removed. This is a torx tips screw, but… I was successful with pliers. Remove the screw and make sure the cable connection notch is pointing up when you replace the screw. (MORE)
Where is the crank sensor on a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 truck with a 5.9L engine and how do you replace it?
Top of bell housing, 2 bolts hold it in place.....small arms and hands are best for reaching it......good luck just replaced ours on truck hubby couldn't get his hands in there
Answer . As with most engines, drop the oil pan and the oil pump is right there. You may need to lift the engine a little to get the oil pan past the cross bar, so you may need to disconnect the engine from the motor mounts and lift 4 or 5 inches.\n. \nNow for the free advice: If you have low o…il pressure it's almost certain the rod and/or main bearings. I don't advise replacing the oil pump unless you're doing an entire engine rebuild.\n. \nPressurized oil is forced between the rod/main bearings and the crankshaft to provide a film of oil that the bearings can ride on. Theoretically, the bearings never touch the crankshaft, provided that everything is working properly. In an engine that does not have worn bearings, that film of oil will keep the two pieces of metal (bearing and crankshaft) apart.\n. \nBefore you replace the oil pump or rebuild the engine, try a heavier grade engine oil. If you've been using 5W15, change to 10W30 or even heavier. If the oil pressure comes back up, you know it's the bearings and not the oil pump. (MORE)
Your 2006 dodge charger hesitates sometimes when you accelerate your check engine light comes on then goes right off it seems to give you a sluggish ride now 45000 miles on it what could this mean?
That could be caused by several things: clogged fuel filter, fuel pump going bad, fouled spark plugs, clogged air filter, dirty throttle body
You replaced a 02 sensor on 1998 dodge ram 1500 and cleared the codes and the check engine light came back on?
tighten your gas cap, then leave the battery cables off over night and it should clear right up. if not, then your 02 sensors are bad......again. they go bad all the time. i bypassed mine with a sensor cause i live in the humid south and my ram runs lean because of this. if you live where it is cold… then you maybe running rich. if an 02 sensor is off by.2% then it will cause a fault. correct air/fuel ratio is 14.1% and its nearly impossible to tune a fuel injection motor to those specs thus causing the 02 sensor to default (MORE)
The firing order for a 2004 Dodge ram 5.7 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Thenumber one cylinder is the front on the drivers side.
Usually you can just remove the battery cables from the battery for a few minutes to reset the system. I think some do require a scan tool to reset, but I don't feel this is your case. But the CEL will come back on if the problem is still present. Once the codes are cleared, the system resets and th…e IM monitors are reset. Meaning they will relearn after so many starts and different driving conditions. The period between the majority of the IM monitors being reset (3 out of 5 or something like that) and when the code reappears, if it is a stored fault, is the period when a vehicle can be inspected w/o the CEL being a factor. The engine light is essentially a warning indicator that somethingis wrong with the vehicle. Each engine light has it's own meaningand severity.
most vehicles have a reset switch somewhere under the dash on the driver's side. if you can't find it, just stop by a dealer and ask one of the mechanics where the switch is located. these stupid things were set to come on as a service reminder to take you vehicle in for servicing. they usually turn… on after a 10000 miles on the odometer. some might come on after 50000 miles. depends on manufacturer. The GED indicator light is an warning indicator. Essentially, itmeans that the alternator in the vehicle is not charging properly.
Usely require a dianostic tool which you can buy at any parts store or try this unplug the positive side of battery.
Is it Diesel? If not sounds like an air flow/air temp sensor is bad - your computer is telling the fuel injectors to add fuel because it is sensing the air is too cold. Could be a bad O2 sensor as well.
What causes the transmission on a 1992 Dodge Dakota 4x4 to slip until the engine warms Once the engine warms up there is no slippage at all?
Check the transmission fluid level (no you cant check it like oil level you need to have it on and in gear (make sure the wheels are blocked and the emergency break is on)). You may want to also check to see if the rubber transmission mount is sagging.
200 Dodge Ram pickup truck does not have a fuel filter. The only filtering device in the system is a "sock" fitted over the end of the fuel pickup tube in the gas tank.
The check engine light turns on to inform the driver that the computer has detected a 'fault' and that the driver should address the problem. If the light is on constantly, it's considered a "minor" fault but something that needs attention as soon as you get a chance. If the light is flashing it mea…ns that something serious has been detected and you need to deal with it NOW! You can either take the vehicle to a shop and have the mechanic connect a code reader to your vehicle OR you can take your vehicle to your local auto parts retailer and borrow, rent or buy a code reader that will tell you what's wrong. Whichever you decide, you won't be able to guess what's wrong, and nobody can help you unless and until you connect the vehicle to a code scanner. Often it's something relatively simple even though it may be a bit expensive. Oxygen sensors for example can be pricey and you should replace both sides at the same time. On the other hand it can sometimes be as simple as a loose gas cap. The code scanner is a great help and if you intend to do much of your own work it's good to have your own scanner. (MORE)
Typically vehicles that use hydraulic lifters & have more miles on them, tend to have a tapping sound until the engine is "warmed up." The hydraulic valve train is designed to eliminate the gap at all operating temperatures, though overtime the lifters wear out and don't fill with oil as quickly res…ulting in the tapping sound you hear until the engine has warmed up, and the lifters have been properly filled and lubricated. Lower the tailgate and remove 2 screws. Grab taillight and pull firmly to the rear. Release tabs that hold bulb.
There is a switch on the bar of the break pedal that needs some oil. Lay underneath the pedal and look up. push the pedal and you will see it move a switch. Apply some lube and you should be good. Just fixed the same problem on my '01 Ram.
A Dodge Ram will have a check engine light appear when the engineneeds to be serviced. You can reset this light by following thedirections in your manual or by having your mechanic do it.
What would cause your motor to feel lazyand sluggish up until 45 mph the truck is a 1989 ford f150 xlt lariat 351 windsor?
A clogged fuel filter can cause a 1989 Ford F150 XLT Lariat 351Windsor motor to feel lazy and sluggish up to 45 miles per hour.Fouled spark plugs can also cause this issue.
I drive a 1990 Toyota Tercel and upon initial startup the oil pressure light goes on and off until the engine warms up. why?
Might want to think about trading up... LOL!!! Just messin with you. But might want to get you pressure gauge checked...
If it is a diesel it is the lift pump, replace it before it takes out the injection pump. If it is a gasser replace it with a diesel.. check the cat converter
If it is an after market stereo, sound as if someone spliced the stereo power source wire (Hot Wire) into the wire going to the headlight switch.
nowdays, the best motor you could put in the 1500, if you have the time and tools, is the 6.7L diesel engine. It cranks out about 500 horsepower and about 800 ft lbs of torque. If your not a motorhead, that is unbelievable. Dodge really put some thought into this beast of a motor. But there is a few… factors in the motor swap, for example: this is a newer motor and if you have an older model truck you might need to do some cutting and beating, and not to mention your motor mounts but you can make those, and there are also a few hard to find aftermarket dealers who could custom make them. Engine light is on in my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 What does this monitor that the check engine light does not?
a 2000 dodge ram 1500 the check engine light is on and the codesays torque converter and clutch and overdrive solenoid. what doyou think that the problem is?
Check/replace air filter, clean the mass airflow sensor at the same time (its attached to the air filter box) with electronics cleaner spray, and then clean your throtle body (you don't have to remove it, just detach the hose and clean as you work the open/close valve by hand.
Open the drivers door. It is under the little door on the end of the dash.
check engine temperature sensor There cheap and if yours is weak or bad Computer tells engine wrong signal
Lower Your Tailgate. You will find Two Screws on the side of the rail stanchion remove them and then carefully remove the taillight assembly by tilting out then rotating it out of place. Turn the light socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing then replace the bulb in question.… Be careful to use ONLY the same number bulb because even if they look the same and fit they can have different resistance. Front Brakes sqwell and truck goes dead and will crank right back up does anybody know why?
While anything is possible, such an endeavor would be very time and cost-prohibitive as to warrant any serious consideration.
How do you set the timing on a 2001 1500 Dodge pickup with a 5.2 engine... Removed the distributor and now cant get it to time with a timing light?
You need to reposition the No. 1 piston to TDC (top dead center). You can do this by removing the spark plug from the No.1 piston and feel for compression as the crankshaft is turned. Or, you can rotate the crankshaft by hand with a large breaker bar and socket and align the the crankshaft vibration… damper scribe mark to the TDC mark on the timing chain cover, while the distributor rotor points to the distributor cap terminal that fires the number 1 cylinder. When you use petroleum based lubricants and the weather's temperature is below freezing, it could take a while. Using synthetic in the engine and transmission would reduce this significantly as well as reducing the fuel to do it. Sixty percent of the wear in an engine is caused in the first minute a…nd a half, meaning that synthetic engine oil would reduce this wear to a degree that it's life would extended. In other words, operation and maintenance is reduced with synthetic lubricants. Equipment owners who use synthetic hydraulic oils love it because they experience reduced maintenance, start-up time and operation expenses. (MORE)

Why would a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport being running fine until it warms up than start shifting rough?
bypass the the line that runs into the radiator. witch is a trans oil warmer. reconnect both lines together
It could be anything from a loose gas cap to a total engine meltdown. There are literally hundreds of codes. It it still moves, get to a garage and have the codes read.
Engine is low of oil, oil pump is failing, or oil pressure sending unit is defective.
the oil pressure in the engine rises when the truck is warming up causing the light to show, if continues after the truck has been running, change oil and oil pump.
