No your need it to tell the coils when to fire with out it you will have no spark
Crankshaft sensor is on the back of the bell hosing of the transmission and the camshaft sensor is behind of the motor mount on the left under the coil pack
It is up under the starter motor.
if it is a 2.4 "x" motor, the crankshaft position sensor should be located in the front of the motor "TUCKED" up behind the starter. it is very difficult to find, but it s there.
