Are you using one at home? If so, they don't always pick up the heartbeat as well as the ones at the doctor's. My OB/GYN told not to use one because they aren't always very reliable and I would just get worried over nothing if I didn't hear the heartbeat.

No its not too early, but sometimes you cant really see anything more than the sac that surrounds the fetus. The baby is to small. But it has a heartbeat, although you may not hear it. And it doesnt "look" like a baby yet. But its a baby. Around 9 weeks, the baby will look like a miniature baby, tho. And around 10-11 weeks your doctor can probably find the heartbeat with a doppler.

absolutly! 8 weeks pregnant is still very early to detect a heart beat. I believe when I was pregnant mine was checked at around 10-12 weeks...even then it was hard to find because the fetus is so small. My Dr. also didn't have an ultrasound done she was using a small device called a doppler.

nope, this happened to me too .. they waited about 3 weeks, tried again and found the heartbeat. It's just because the baby is working to grow, and the fetus is so tiny its hard to pinpoint where the heart is.

No, honey. Your baby is way to teeny for that! You can't even remotley hear a baby's heartbeat with a good Doppler before 9 or 10 weeks! So don't worry! Besides if the Dr. thought anything was wrong he would have told you! Look at it this way.... if you were 5 weeks along at your last Dr. appt. than your next appointment should be scheduled 4 weeks later which will make you 9 weeks. The doctor might not try to get the baby's heartbeat but ASK HIM TO anyhow! The doctor didn't try mine and he said 9 weeks could be too early to hear it but he tried and got it with not to much difficulty. No typically the heart does not start beating until 6 weeks, but the way pregnancy is measured at "2 weeks pregnant" you aren't even pregnant yet, since most women ovulate 2 weeks after the first day of their last menstrual cycle.
