Could be a bad accelerator pump Could be a bad choke adjustment
if it has a carburetor it is normal
It could have a leaky carburetor or injector that's causing the engine to flood.
Choke not closing when cold, Accelerator pump in carburetor not working-- Float leval to low.
You say it runs when gas is poured in the engine but not with the key start. Two questions: (1) where in the engine are you pouring gas, and (2) how are you starting the engine if not with the key? If you mean you are pouring gas in the carburetor or in the spark plug hole and it starts with the key, but doesn't start if you don't pour gas in, the needle valve on the carburetor may be closed or the float may be stuck in the closed positiotion. You might also want to check the throttle linkage.
Spray a small amount of carburetor cleaner in the air intake and if it starts it is fuel related.
Visit a gas station to get it fixed.
A carburetor will not start when it does not yet enough fuel. A carburetor will not start if it gets too much. Fuel and not enough air.
fuel pump is the first place i would look
If vehicle has a carburetor--accelerator pump could be bad--kit availabe for repair/replacement If onlty happens when cold choke is either not adjusted properly or not working
Carburetor
The carburetor needs rebuilding.
(No Charge)First test the battery. If it is OK check the alternator. (Die at stoplight)Start with a good tuneup (plugs, points, rotor, distributor cap). If that doesnt solve it, either replace the carburetor or rebuild the carburetor. It sounds like it is staving for gas at idle which could be a minor carburetor adjustment.
