Does the light come on while driving or stay on from ignition on to start and idle?. When you switch on the ignition the light will flash, but must go out when starting and oil pressure is reached. When the light flashes, does an alarm also sound after a while? My answers is based on my own experience with 2 CLi's and is based on South African models.......

  1. Try replacing the 2 oil pressure switches located on the radiator side of the engine block - roughly in the middle near the sump. Remember you need to get both. The one should have a brown surrounding around its terminal and the other should have a white surround.
  2. Underneath the engine behind the crankshaft pulley there is a big bolt. This is the oil pressure relieve valve. When you remove this bolt, you will find a spring. Try cleaning this bolt - make sure it is smooth - and try to stretch this spring or have it checkout. This sometimes get stuck or the spring wears out and then the sensors pics up an oil pressure problem.
  3. Underneath the dashboard on drivers side (depending I suppose on country and what side the steering wheel is situated) the relay and fuse box is situated. I think there is also a relay which activates according to the 2 pressure switches the flashing light as a first warning and after a while the alarm as a second warning.
  4. Lastly the instrument cluster is also prone to give problems on these cars. Sometimes the electronic board gets damaged or from age the little tracks on the wiring diagram wears out which can also cause malfunctioning lights. Even the two plugs that plugs into the instrument cluster can have worn out terminals. Try removing them and clean them....it is a bit of a phaf to remove them.
