Plugged radiator Water pump Bad thermostat
Ford EA Falcon was created in 1988.
The thermostat is under the water outlet on the top of the engine. The upper radiator hose attaches to the water outlet.
Coolant flows into the water pump from the lower radiator hose. The water pump circulates the water through the internal water passages in the engine as well as the heater core. Coolant exits through the water outlet into the upper radiator hose and on into the radiator to start the process over.
Drain the radiator on the 1988 Cavalier. Take of the water pump belt. If the fan and shroud are in the way then remove them. unbolt and remove the pump. Bolt up the new pump and put the belt back on. Put the shroud and fan on if they were removed. Fill the radiator back up.
Look either at the bottom of radiator or on the rear of the radiator bottom
Probably not.
Radiator drain plug (petcock) is located on the passenger side of the radiator underneath on the very bottom of the radiator.
Remove The Radiator And Take It To a Good Radiator Shop. Most Likely Yours Can Be Cleaned And Repaired. When You Reinstall It, Add New Antifreeze Plus Water Pump Lubricant. This Will Help Stop Corrosion. Good Luck
The radiator drain plug on a 1988 Honda Accord LX is located on the lower right side of the radiator. If facing the vehicle from the front, it would be on the driver's side of the radiator. To drain easily, loosen the radiator cap after opening the drain plug.
An automobile's heater that blows only cold air could either be a faulty thermostat or, more likely, a faulty heater core. A trip to a mechanic or shop that specializes in radiator and cooling system repair should be able to diagnose and repair any problems.
