much more difficult. Ford usually install the dash as a unit and the heater core goes in from the front. If you have nerve enough, remove the glovebox and you should be able to see the bulge where the heater core is. Cover should be plastic, carefully cut the housing big enough to remove the core, remove it, reinstall. Can be done, just takes a little time and effort. Not as much as doing it the "right" way. <2008-04-18> Agreed. Would suggest Bar's Leaks or just bypassing the heater core. I live in Florida, heater core has two uses -- (1) to "warm up" the cold AC, mine is VERY cold without the heater core, to where I have to periodically cycle the compressor. (2) to heat the defroster air. Without a heater core, the cold air on defrost winds up counter productive.
The Ford Thunderbird door should trigger the lights to go off. The sensor associated with the closed-door may need to be replaced.

Have you replaced the cam and/or crank sensor?
If a 1996 Thunderbird is getting spark and fuel, but won't start, there could be a problem with the computer itself. There is also a possibility that the electronic part that replaced the condenser is bad inside the coil pack.
