I don't think so, given that the engine became computer controlled in 1996. I they are the same size they might bolt up just fine but I'm not sure how much work it would be to convert it to computer control. The Suburban and Silverado drive trains were almost unchanged from 1988 thru 1995 and 1996 thru 2000.
Based on all of the information given in the question, it appears that a defect exists, perhapsan intermittent one, either in the radio, or in the antenna, power, or speaker wiring to it.
Dirty fuel filter? Bad plugs and wires, etc., etc., etc. Take it to autozone for a free diagnostic check.

More than likely your fuel filter is getting clogged up. Usually when a vehicle stumbles when you apply more gas it has either a clogged fuel filter, air filter, or exhaust pipe.
