Very rare for a water pump not to pump so I would replace the thermostat first. Also, not a good idea to run straight water in the cooling system, use a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% clean water.

if the thermostat is not closing its not letting the coolant get warm enough to heat your vehicle. If it stays open the coolant just keeps circulating and not heating up.

you may have a vacuum leak somewhere.
if the 4x4 isn't working then you need to check your transfer case. is it making any noises? or did it just stop working?
Could be a blown fuse.
