I too am having the exact same problem!
The cooling fans should come on at about 232-235 degrees under normal conditions except when the air conditioning is on.
Do you mean the cooling fan? If so engine temperature has excedded 235 degrees Check coolant level
look in the yellow pages
there should be a air valve on the engine that you can bleed the bubbles out of the cooling system.
It is a brass fitting on the top of the thermostat housing.

If your gas gauge is not working on your 2000 Impala you need to take it in to a repair shop. There could be a fuse that needs to be replaced to prevent you from running out of gas.
