radiator plugged.or coolant low
Thermostat.
I do not have a Grand Marquis so my engine does not overheat! Fords and Ford products tend to overheat and always have! Let's check a few things. How long has it been since you changed the thermostat and the coolant? Those two things are the most likely culprits. What is the condition of the hoses? Have those been changed in the last several years? If you have changed the hoses, the thermostat, and the coolant, and it still overheats, then it is time to take it to a radiator shop and have the radiator rodded out. ========================================================== I have been driving Ford models for over 40 years and have never had an engine overheat . Don't forget the basics , engine cooling system level etcetera . Check for a fan clutch problem , a problem with the water pump not circulating . Ford also states that if you exceed 60% antifreeze in the distilled water / antifreeze mix that it could overheat in hot weather
Driving home yesterday my temperature gauge on the 2003 Chevy silverado went all the way to the right as if it was overheating. No overheat light came on. I pulled over and checked everything and nothing was hot and it had water. So it wasn't actually overheating but the temperature gauge was all the way to the right as if it was overheating. After getting home I let the truck sit awhile and restarted it and the gauge didn't reset. What causes this and how can I fix it? Thanks for your time! Also reset it by disconnecting battery it was good for two days after turning key off and on the needle keep going higher and higher. Can you help I changed sending unit no luck now what?
Water Pump or Thermostat. May have to change water pump to replace thermostat.
Yes, if your car is not overheating. P0118 is a 'high coolant' alert. You probably have a bad temperature sensor.
Need to change your thermastat i have done that but still over heats when driving

You will wear out your and brake, and make the engine work harder.ANS 2 You will overheat the brake and strain the engine. If you didn't smell brake overheating, you may be OK. However you should re-adjust this brake as it should have prevented the car from moving.
pull over and call for help
Overheating & then seizure.
your vehicle may smell like antifreeze while driving because it is overheating
Coolant could be low, causing the engine to overheat. There are also a number of things that could cause overheating and the engine to shut off. Plus the ford tempo was an unsound car from the get go/
