I had this problem myself and ended up paying $800 bucks (and that was a deal) to fix my fuel system. Now I am really mad because I just found out that there was a recall on the 96 cavalier fuel system. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/1996/Chevrolet/cavalier/recalls/index.html

What is established through compression testing?

Compression testing is done on engines and it establishes whether the engine has good compression. Good compression is needed for the engine to start easily and run efficiently.

You got a 2005 Chevy cavalier with no compression what causes this and how much too fix it?

Typically the engine's internal components operate within tight tolerances of each other. Compression loss either through ware or mechanical failure can result in a car which runs poorly or not at all. Compression loss can occur over time, through warring of the piston wrings or suddenly, through mechanical failure. Sudden failures can include head gasket blowout, bent or broken valve and cracked cylinder walls. All of these causes have special characteristics which a trained technician can identify through simple observation, specialized tests such as compression and leak-down testing, and sometimes only through exploratory surgery by removing the cylinder head and visually inspecting the engine's internal components.
